Hello Snippetteers! Here is this week’s contribution to Rainbow Snippets, an awesome Facebook group of authors and bloggers who post snippets from LGBTQ works every weekend. Catch up with all the snippets here: Rainbow Snippets.

I’ve finally come up with a title for my Anthony WIP, which is thisclose to being complete and submitted to Dreamspinner: In Over Our Heads. Here’s a fun little snippet from right after Anthony and Henry kiss on the beach:

SNIPPET

I wish I could say I was swept away and the waves crashed over us as we continued to kiss, like in that Deborah Kerr movie which name escapes me at the moment. But I don’t like sand and getting it in my hair and pants doesn’t contribute to amazing sex, in my opinion. And it was getting freaking windy out—half my shivering was from being cold rather than from Henry’s hot kisses.

I pulled myself out of his arms and sat up. “Can we go to your place or something? I’m freezing my ass off out here. Oops!” I clapped my hand over my mouth for a moment. “That wasn’t very romantic, was it?”

I continue to revise the blurb and here is the current version:

In Over Our Heads

Anthony Vallen is a sucker for romance—for everyone but himself. He’s perfectly happy to match-make for his friends and enjoys dancing the night away with a series of Mr. Right Nows. But he’s given up on his own happy ending. He had his chance years ago and the experience turned him into a secret cynic about love. Or so he thinks until he runs into Henry Elkins—the boy who broke his heart—at a dive bar in Key West. Suddenly, Anthony’s reasons for shunning romance no longer hold much water.

Henry Elkins has a brilliant mind and has always preferred thinking deep thoughts over being with other people. Only once has someone managed to penetrate his defenses to reach his heart, and that ended in disaster. Henry was headed for a career as a research scientist when an unexpected calamity threw him off his life path. He landed in Key West and became owner of a dive shop and bar. His past catches up to him one day when Anthony Vallen walks into his bar, and Henry soon finds himself floundering in murky waters.

  1. Ha! Not romantic, but I’m totally in favor of being practical. Yuck to getting all sandy, even with a hot lover.

  2. Ha! Can’t say that I blame him for not wanting sand in his hair and pants. 😉

  3. Hehe, I could picture this perfectly, I don’t blame him at all.

  4. Lol, I love it. And it’s a great title! :-)

  5. Maybe not romantic, but at least honest!

  6. Rolling in the sand, yeah not that romantic. I like his honesty.

  7. I can’t begin to say how much I emphasize with this character! :)
